Welcome to "The Draftland Scene"
Just another Substack that started out as a Zine on a podcast's Patreon.
Hello! If you’re reading this, you’re amazing, and I won’t take too much of your valuable time.
Short version: This Substack will feature regular movie reviews, semi-regular movie essays, and irregular movie blather written by me. I worked for a lifetime at Entertainment Weekly, where among things I was a failed video game critic and a failed TV critic. Watch out, cinema.
Long version: The Draftland Scene is an esteemed publication which was founded last year in Draftland, the movie-mad city which is the primary setting of The Marathon, the Patreon exclusive spinoff of Screen Drafts, which is greatest movie podcast of all time. You can find past issues of the Zine by joining the Screen Drafts Booster Club over on Patreon. Like all print publications, The Draftland Scene does have an online component. Hence: This Substack. The Draftland Scene will still publish a regular monthly “print” edition over on the Screen Drafts Patreon. Seriously, go join the Booster Club!
I will be publishing at least one movie review per week. Later this year, there will be weekly columns moving through every installment of the Planet of the Apes and Alien franchises. I’ve already written a review of The Beekeeper, the first movie I can remember where a bad guy yells “Where you at, Bee Boy?” at Jason Statham. Consider me your 99¢ movie critic, since five bucks a month will get you at least 4 reviews and (at least) one extra piece of cinematic exploration.
Still reading? Bless you! Go see The Beekeeper, I need to talk to someone about the last half-hour!
